The first receiver I ever bought was a Pioneer, I purchased the receiver with a set of 3-way Technics floor speakers. The system definitely sounded really good for it's time, it is a bit out dated now but the receiver still works well. I know Pioneer is a very trustworthy long lasting receiver company to go with.
